You may not know this about me, but I'm a proud member of the board of the Warm Hearts Foundation, a 501c3 charity that does work in Kenya and Malawi to lift people out of poverty and into self-sufficiency by providing clean water sources and educational opportunities among other things.
One of my roles as a board member is to lead high school building expeditionsto Malawi. (We're hoping going again in 2022, so let me know if you're interested in going. They're amazing trips, and you get to hang out with me!!)
Another area of focus that I'm really proud of is our girls empowerment programs. We provide reusable sanitary napkin kits to the young women at the high schools we build, and other public high schools in Mangochi, Malawi so none of the girls have to miss any school for lack of supplies.
We also support the Passion To Share Foundation in the Kibira slum of Nairobi Kenya. This is Lydiah, the amazing founder of the foundation. She has created a skills development center where young women from the slum can learn sewing or graphic design skills, so they can start a business or get a job.
For the past 2 years, around this time of year, the sewing students have practiced their skills making beautiful bags with vibrant Kenyan fabrics. I pay to ship them here, then make them available to my friends, family and fabulous network to purchase to support this amazing program.
These bags are not only beautiful and useful, but they've helped the girls learn skills that they will use to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. The girls are also so fired up that their bags are being sold in the United States. The confidence and empowerment they get from this sale and this program is immeasurable!
Once I sell them, I send 100% of the money from the sale back to Lydiah and the Passion to Share Foundation. Last year they established a production room for their program alumni, and we're on par to send even more money this year! Won't you help?
