Lower stress, better sleep, fights depression…give me some of that magic!

Digital Book World, in partnership with Jellybooks Founder Andrew Rhomberg, shared survey data that reveals only 60 per cent of books purchased are ever opened, which, Rhomberg said, “says nothing about whether they are even finished.”

On January 2 of this year, I placed the 2 books a professional colleague had recommended (that had just arrived in the mail) on the bookshelf next to the 100 other books I'd purchased and never opened.

Then I walked over to my journal and started deciding what I wanted to accomplish in 2022 and I wrote:

READ 24 BOOKS

(Audible Counts!)

I want all the info in those books in my brain so I can be a better human, a better speaker and a better business woman. BUT, did you know...

Research shows that regular reading:

  • improves brain connectivity. (neural pathways and junk!)
  • increases your vocabulary and comprehension.
  • empowers you to empathize with other people.
  • aids in sleep readiness.
  • reduces stress.
  • lowers blood pressure and heart rate.
  • fights depression symptoms.
  • prevents cognitive decline as you age.

It's not just about collecting knowledge. It's about exercising your brain, getting better sleep and being smarter and calmer! Who doesn't want that!

But I don't have time to sit down and read for 2 hours a day. YOU DON'T HAVE TO!

I started reading 10-15 minutes each morning, and when it's time for bed, I turn off my devices, grab a book and read for a while before turning in. Just by making that little addition to each (most) days, (and reading on planes, listening to audible while running and in long car trips) I achieved my 24 book goal by June! I feel smarter already, and falling asleep is much easier after a half hour of reading.

If you haven't cracked a book lately, go grab one now, and find a little time to add some reading to your life.

Your 2030 brain thanks you!
