“A yurt in a tree on a farm…that’s perfect!”
As I clicked “reserve” on the AirBnB website, the nerves kicked in.
You are going alone 2 ½ hours away from home…
To a random person’s property…
To spend the night in a tree in the middle of nowhere surrounded by stinky farm animals…
And Sally (the elf in my noggin who is in charge of telling me everything that could go wrong) started panicking and telling me all the things.
As usual when she pipes up, I had a little conversation with her. “Sally, yes, you’re right and thank you for trying to keep me alive AND…the reviews online are really positive, the place looks really cool, we travel alone all the time and always figure it out, and THEY MIGHT LET US MILK A GOAT!”
Conversation over, excitement began. (I think my friends got tired of me telling them I was going to milk a goat. They’re very patient people!)
Well, I am sure glad I talked to Sally rather than listening to her, because what a wonderful adventure I had.
If I had listened to Sally, I would have missed out on
- One of the most interesting AirBnBs I’ve ever stayed in. (here’s the video if you want to check it out.
- Meeting Woodstock, the most chill, friendly black and white kitty who lived on the platform of my treeyurt.
- Hanging out with the host Dan, Carlos, John, Nina, and the other people who were hanging out “around the campfire” chatting after dark.
- Eating the ice cream sandwich that was in the freezer! (I love an ice cream sandwich!)
- Having a brilliantly peaceful night’s sleep in the murphy bed in my glorious yurt in a tree.
- Enjoying my morning coffee while reading and hosting a purring Woodstock on my lap.
- Smashing a BBQ Brisket lunch at the roadside BBQ joint in town.
- Wandering through a lovely gallery filled with super interesting things made by local artists.
- AND MILKING A GOAT! (and holding baby goats, scratching donkey necks, tripping over chicken stampedes and waving to an alpaca that was giving me enough of a side-eye so I didn’t attempt contact!)
I went home feeling refreshed and recharged with glorious memories of my overnight treeyurt, goat milking, cat snuggling adventure!
Venture out into the unknown! Take on that uncomfortable uncertainty because it’s likely you’ll end up with a wonderful adventure and proof that the world is a fascinating place and people are actually pretty great!
