Face the Facts Now and Save a Headache Later!

“Meh, it’ll be fine! I’ll deal with it later.” (famous last words!)

I got home from a work trip.  As I usually do, I walked in the door, kicked off my shoes, dropped my suitcase by the door and collapsed on the couch.  As I lay there relaxing, I heard it.

Drip

Drip

Drip

Drip….

Ticking clocks and dripping faucets drive me nuts, so I sprung up to find what was going on and found the culprit…the kitchen faucet was leaking.

I was tired.

I didn’t want to deal with it.

I blew it off.  I only had a few days at home before my next trip, and I didn’t want to have to wait for maintenance people.  I’ll deal with it when I get back from the next trip.

Fast-forward 3 days, and I walk in the door, kick off my shoes, drop my suitcase, and as I’m about to collapse on the couch, I notice the kitchen floor is a little shiny.

It was covered in water.  The little drip I ignored turned into a full-on flood, and now I had to not only call the maintenance person, but clean up the flooded mess in my kitchen!  I could have easily avoided this if I had just faced reality and fixed it when it started.  UG!

The Reality Check We All Need

We’ve all had our “kitchen leak” moments. That creeping discomfort about something we don’t want to deal with: an awkward conversation, an overdue project, or that nagging feeling that something’s off. But just like my kitchen leak, the longer we avoid reality, the bigger (and messier) the problem gets.

Why It’s Better to Face Reality Early
Facing reality might mean a few uncomfortable moments now, but it can save us from way bigger challenges later. Just imagine the stress you’d avoid if you tackled that uncomfortable task today instead of waiting until it grows out of control.

So, What Should We Do?

  1. Spot It Early: Listen to that gut feeling and the external evidence telling you something’s off.
  2. Take Action Now: The best time to face reality is before the “leak” turns into a flood!
  3. Learn from It: Each time you tackle something head-on, you build the courage to face the next challenge.  Plus, dealing with it when it’s small is rarely as bad as we anticipate it will be, so it will build your confidence too!

Facing reality head-on often isn’t what we want to do, but it’s about freeing ourselves from potential stress down the line.  (Less stress for the win!!!)   The sooner we face the facts, the sooner we can move forward, empowered and ready to take on whatever comes next.

So get ‘em, Tiger!
