I got a sketchy e-vite…

“What is this?” I thought as I examined the e-vite in my inbox.  Of course my brain went through the typical “is this safe? Don’t click on it!” gymnastics.  Then I saw Errez Designson the return e-mail address…my dear friend Katie’s bougie Interior Design company in Miami!

I opened it.

And there it was!  The grand opening of their first (of many) interior design stores.

Miami is four hours from my house, but her opening weekend happened to coincide with a speaking engagement I had for an amazing hospital system in Miami, so I put it on my calendar and RSVP’d YES!

I walked in, and it was everything I thought it would be.  Katie is one of THE MOST stylish people I’ve ever met!  Their designs are glorious and rich and so fun and exciting, and the store perfectly captured their passion and style and over-the-top-amazingness!  Check it out.

Even the bathroom was over the top amazing!

Katie was effervescent.  So excited to be having a super successful opening weekend, but as we talked, and she talked to other people, I realized something that surprised me.

They had no idea what they were doing!

Ok, that’s a lie.  They’ve been doing interior design for decades and they’ve been doing it well.  They’ve studied. They’ve practiced. They’ve learned and failed and learned more and succeeded more than they failed.  They’re very experienced…

And they still felt like they were building the plane as they flew.

It all looked put together.  The store was gorgeous. (and smelled SO GOOD!)  Their social media was on point.  The staff was trained.  The products were cohesive.  Everything looked PERFECT!

…and they still felt like they were flying by the seat of their pants.

And I found great comfort in the fact, that we’re all doing the best we can and figuring it out as we go!  Anyone who has ever achieved anything has stumbled around in the discomfort zone more than not.  Nobody knows whether what they’re doing is going to work out.  But those who do big things quietly slink around that fear and doubt like a cat burgler avoiding a laser trip wire, and they PUNCH IT MARGARET!®

What are you avoiding because you think you’ve got to have it all figured out?  You may never be ready, so be like Katie…surround yourself with amazing people, believe in your skills and talents and GO GET ‘EM Tiger!!!
